I had the misfortune of seeing Naina the movie last night. And it was a 2345 hrs show, meaning which we endured the movie till pretty late. Sri, his friend and I had gone with some hopes of increasing our cardiovascular rate (given that I don’t seem to exercise this is the only way to get my heart to pump about a bit more!), and perhaps losing sleep atleast for one night.
Bah!
A flimsy story. Vague casting. Corneas flying from Bhuj (from an unclaimed body!) to London. And not a single scare. Except for the gigglers sitting behind our row, there was no entertainment. The movie was sooo pathetic, that it doesn’t even DESERVE a review!
Some really sore points of the movie included the lack of research on cornea transplants, organ donation, landscape of Bhuj, rainfall levels in Bhuj, women’s clothing in Bhuj and the doctor-patient relationship rules especially with regard to psychiatrists/ psychologists! (In reference to the protagonist’s coochie cooing with her own doctor! Ugh!) Besides not once does Urmila Don’tMindKar behave like a person who can’t see. If you’ve ever been with people who have a sight disability, their body mannerism and relationship with the world is very different.
Throughout the movie Sri insisted that he had seen a Telugu movie which had the same plot. I did a little net hunting and figured that there is a Catonese (Hong Kong) movie with the same storyline, and it has been rehashed in various forms in the various desi woods.
Finally, horror genre is not about blood or gore. It’s about experiencing fear. Especially of the unknown, or the rude reminder of stories heard from cousins late at night.
Boo!
