pause, rewind, play

Three days. And Seven hundred twenty two emotions later. I write again. Going to Hyderabad has a special significance somehow. In six months, I discovered aspects of my own resilience and sloth that I never knew existed. And having come back to Bombay now, events hit me one by one.

I finally saw the video of my wedding, having found a willing partner in my Mother In Law. I am convinced that the only people who will ever flip through a wedding video, and want to see it over and over again are parents. I also discovered that the sleeplessness over those 48 odd hours, means that you often don’t remember the various things you did, till you see documentary evidence that yeah, well, you had lifted this, and you did have to walk around something, and that I smile a LOT. In all the photographs, and most of the video, I don’t bloody look like a shy coy bride at all!! I am grinning MOST of the time. I would have done most dentists proud. At other times I just look exasperated.

In the course of watching the video, also missed my parents a lot. A visit is due to them soon. In that rush of a wedding, flying tempers, and the rapid exchange of words and vows, our parents were mostly at the receiving end of our madness. My sister who ran around like crazy, figuring out things like ‘room vacancy’ logistics. She had the final word when it came to who was in which room and who they had to share the room with. And the gracious aunts, who calmed my mother, and made sure that I got my cups of coffee.

And the funny thing is, when you spend time with your in-laws, you end up missing your parents as well. Something about home, and wanting it all … I guess.

And so while the CD whirred inside the computer, each of the gestures made in the video, especially ones that seem almost Candid-Cameraish, made me want to thank so many more people. Sigh.
